FAQS

How do I submit?

Click on our submissions tab and fill out the Google Doc form questions. Make sure to include a working link or a downloadable file of your film!

How will I know if my film is chosen?
Films are considered on a rolling basis. We get hundreds of submissions a month and we are a small, volunteer based team so if your film hasn't been selected one month, it doesn't mean it was rejected. If your film is selected, we will send you an email with more information.

What if I can't attend the screening that my film was accepted for?
Email us as soon as possible to let us know and we can always hold your film for another month
when you can attend.

What time is the screening?
Doors at 7:00pm
Screening starts at 8:00pm.

Where is the screening?
El Cid
4212 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90029

What is the venue like?
El Cid is a historic club and venue on Sunset Blvd in
Silver Lake. You will first need to show ID at the door and get checked in. Some steps will lead you down to the patio, where there is an outdoor bar and art vendors have tables set up with their work (please support local indie artists!). Up some stairs on another level of the patio, there will be chairs set up and a few booths with an outdoor screen. Inside, there are tables and chairs set up with an indoor screen. There is an indoor bar as well and there will be servers going around the venue throughout the night if you want to order drinks and food.

What is the night of the screening like?
From 7-8pm people show up,
get situated in their seats and hang out.
Both screens inside and outside will be screening
the same films for that month's lineup.
Our hosts, Ben & Jared, will make a brief introduction and the screening inside begins. Then they will go outside and make the same brief introduction and start the screening outside. After the show is over, our hosts will say a few words inside and outside where they will announce the lineup of filmmakers and their films individually by name.
After the screening, people hang out on the patio for a bit until we need to clear out of El Cid for their next event of the night (usually around 10pm).
If you want to hang out further, we announce a nearby bar that we move the party over to after :)

How long is the screening?
It is roughly around 90 min.

What is the seating situation like?
First come, first served! The earlier you can get to
El Cid, the better chance you have to secure a good spot. This is especially important if you are saving seats or come with a group of people
who want to sit together.

How do I get in?
Our volunteers will look you up by name on our guest list
if you RSVP'd and check you in.

How do I RSVP?

Click on our RSVP tab and it will bring you to a Partiful link that will allow you to choose 'Yes' and confirm. The Partiful link will be added to our website and announced on Instagram on Monday the week of this month's show. Typically around 12pm.

Can I get in if I don't RSVP?
We HIGHLY encourage you to RSVP
but if you can't,

it's possible to show up and get in
but please know there is limited capacity.

Will there be a line?
There is typically a line for RSVPs and people are granted entry on a first come, first served basis.
El Cid has a capacity limit and fire codes to uphold.
Even if you do RSVP,
entry is not 100% guaranteed
due to limited capacity.

Can I attend if I am under 21 or
have someone in my group under 21?

Be aware that El Cid is a venue that serves alcohol and will card you if you want to drink, but if you mention this at the door they will let you in.
We have had people of all ages attend,
filmmakers included.

Is the screening okay for kids to view?

Typically we have a wide range of work and some shorts can get graphic or have mature content or themes.
This is up to a parent or guardian's discretion.

How many people attend each month?
Typically 200+ people attend each month's screening.
It is frequently at capacity for our screenings which is why we HIGHLY recommend to come as early
as possible to secure seating for the screening!

Do you have social media?
We are active on Instagram
Silverlake Shorts

Do you advertise the screening at all?
Each month, we make an Instagram post for every film that is going to be featured in the upcoming screening. We also make a trailer for each screening that features clips from each film. That is typically released on Instagram the Monday before that month's
next screening, along with the RSVP link.

Can I table as a vendor at a screening?
We feature different vendors at each screening and are always open to new inquiries so please reach out to us
via email and let's talk!

Can I make a Silver Lake Shorts interstitial?
Yes please! We've had a number of people create very short interstitial videos that feature any variation of the
Silver Lake Shorts logo. They are intended to play in between the shorts, kind of like a bumper.
The shorter, the better!
